half an hour left before i leave work. might as well add an entry....

i don't like at the drive-in anymore. this is an excerpt from an interview they did with mtv.com:
"It's a necessity to pump new blood into a scene that we come from, which is getting really stale right now," he said. "Like we said, you can spend the rest of your life playing for 'zines and backpacks, and it'll be safe, and it'll be contrived, and it'll be lame. You'll know where you stand.

"To me, growing up listening to punk was about breaking the rules, and never following any sort of rules," he continued. "That's also why we chose Ross [Robinson, producer of Relationship of Command]. It was like our way of giving the middle finger to the punk community, because we were never really accepted by the punk community at the beginning. ...They didn't know how to market us, explain us, or even how to put us on a bill."

how nice, all of the fans that have liked them for years are reduced to "'zines and backpacks". oh well, i wish them luck achieving the success they want with the limp bizkit, insane clown posse kids. maybe they'll treat them better than the punk kids did. b-o-o-h-o-o.

happy halloween!

some sad fucking news when you find out that one of your favorite directors has chosen to work with adam sandler for their next project. according to ptanderson.com, this is very unfortunately the case. just what the world needs, another movie where adam sandler runs around acting like a retarded cajun.

tonight is the dismemberment plan / j church show at the troubadour. i hope my camera works. there's been something on the frame advance that keeps unscrewing when i advance the frame. hopefully super glue will do the trick.

i like the smoking gun site a lot. i don't think it takes a genius to figure out that sports and domestic violence go together like grilled cheese and tomato soup. the bottom t-shirt here looks exactly like the last smoking popes album.

there's still a day left on this auction. hurry!

thanks to the onion, i now have a halloween mask...even though i'm probably not going to go out. it sucks when halloween falls on a weekday. me at home, alone, watching a dvd with my count bakula mask, scary. i think my john oates costume will fall through since i'm unable to find a curly mullet wig. who ese finds the idea of me sitting at home, alone, dressed up like john oates both creepy and distubung?

i like the new design on kevin's site. i think i need to change the look of this one.

another entry to please my legions of fans...

last weekend on friday the 13th, i almost became superstitious. i drove to mehran's after work where i met up with him, natolee, and leslie. (yes, we are more than links. we are real people.) we hung out at his house for a while and decided to see dancer in the dark and go to the hippie/emo/hardcore free-for-all cultural "jam session" that is taco loco in laguna beach. at around 9 we parked in the 4/5 empty ralph's parking lot right down the street and got tofu mushroom burgers. after about 15 minutes, we went back to the parking lot and found that mehran's car was towed and it would cost him $118 to get it back. that's really not a nice thing to do to ralph's club members. we were gone for 15 minutes! apparently there's a manager or something who checks the parking lot every 5 minutes for people who aren't shoppers and has a tow truck come by every 15 minutes to pick up a car. they claim to make an announcement in the store before they tow to make sure they aren't towing customers, but when we were in the store later, we didn't hear one of them. it seems like a big scam, yes? $118 dollars split between the supermarket and the tow truck company? why else would they care about their empty parking lot so late at night? i could understand if it was in the afternoon and we were taking up space for customer parking, but with it that empty, it's ridiculous.

so mehran leaves with the next tow truck driver who couldn't fit all of us in his truck because his girlfriend and dog were in there and nat, leslie, and i waited in the parking lot for mehran to return with his car. while waiting, we decided to do some shopping...sort of. we got a shopping cart and filled it up with the heaviest and most inconvenient items to reshelve we could find; pineapples, pumpkins, 10 different kinds of yogurt, 5lb bags of rice, frozen turkeys, etc. then we left it in isle 4. that killed some time before mehran got back. after 2 hours we started to get worried because he wasn't back and we had no way to get in touch with him and he had no way of getting in touch with us. finally mehran pulled up and looked totally shaken up. he told us that his credit card wasn't working and he was pleading with the assholes there to let him take his car to pick us up and to pay for everything the next day and offered to leave everything he had as collateral. since he had no way of paying, they would have made him spend the night there. after about 2 1/2 hrs. of him being there someone else tried his credit card through the machine and it went through and they let him go.

i'm trying to find a corporate address to write to ralph's and complain, but i'm not having much luck.

p.s. somewhere throughout the course of the night i set down a styrofoam container with food from taco loco in it so that i could pick it up when i got out of the store and one of the laguna locals informed me very angrily that i had to pick it up. i said i would. he said do it. i said calm down. he asked if i wanted my jaw broken and sounded just like will ferrell getting angry. people are really mean.

almost a week with no entry, yikes. failing my tests has taken up a lot of my time. last weekend was fun. we saw jesus' son on sat, and although it was told in a weird way (through flashbacks with the narrator jumping forward and back whenever he felt like it) and i didn't grasp what was happening in evey scene, it didn't really matter because you get pretty lost in the movie and the characters (in a good way). jack black had a great little role in it. jesus' son wasn't unlike drugstore cowboy, but it had more humor and more likable characters. my request to the movie industry: please no more close up's on needles while people shoot up, i'm tired of cringing. i think we all get the point that heroin is ugly and shooting up is bad (well, most of us anyway), so it's not necessary to show it anymore. thanks. is there a movie that billy crudup isn't in? not that i mind, but i swear that everything i've seen lately he's been in.

i'm becoming more and more obsessed with dvd's and dvd players. this morning i ordered boogie nights and filth and the fury. there's this really cool dvd site that lists all the internet promotions going on called bargainflix. i saved $10 with one of the coupons. by the end of this weekend i should have a dvd player.

Friday, October 6, 2000 03:35 p.m.

there is absolutely nothing to do at work today. not that there's been anything to do at work for the past month or so, but it seems especially true today. this change in weather (cloudy, almost raining) has made the people in my office (myself included) totally lazy. my boss is off in another country for at least another day or two, and to take advantage of that, in a few minutes i'm going to go read on the couch in his office and drink the extremely hot cup of coffee that i got from the gas station across the street and listen to the new radiohead album. wow, how pretentious is that? i wonder how many blogs have mentioned the new radiohead album today.

i'm really looking forward to this weekend. sleep, natolee, cold weather, electric blankets, movies, and a house to myself. oh yes.

Tuesday, October 3, 2000 12:17 p.m.

i'm home today and i sorta got to sleep in. does everyone in l.a. get random people misdialing your number almost every day, or does that just happen to me? i like waking up and checking mail and having stuff i've been waiting for be there. i'm still waiting for my radiohead lp, but i got some insound stuff that i ordered last week. nothing great though - an import dismemberment plan 7", a vade 7" (which i don't like), and a lazycain / no knife split.

i talked to my friend allen last night and he said he's dropping out of school. that really sucks. who am i supposed to talk to in my classes now, the die-hard democrat guy? now i won't be able to make fun of all the idiots in my classes. grr.

i'm about 1/3 done with my philosophy essay (for those who are keeping track).

oh!! big news. that fleeting-gem page that i've been talking about is a big joke. brett e-mailed "cassie" and they said it's 2 people adding entries, one in n.y. and one in the bay area. they made up the character as a compilation of all the stupid girls they've met. i really hope they keep the page going cos it's truly hysterical.

Sunday, October 1, 2000 11:18 p.m.

rabbit rabbit. the day is almost over and i've completed about 1 page for my philosophy essay. i'm taking the day off of work on tuesday to stay home and study and finish it up.

this weekend, natolee and i went to see almost famous. we were going to see best in show, but for some reason it's only playing in two theaters in all of l.a. and orange county this weekend and we weren't around the theaters that were showing it. we both really liked almost famous though. i don't know if i liked it better than other cameron crowe films like say anything and jerry maguire, but it was still very good. philip seymour hoffman, (great as always) played lester bangs, the legendary rock journalist in the movie. there was a book about lester bangs, that came out this year that i'm really interested in reading. i will, once i have time to read something other than a school book.

i'm closer to completing my quest for a dvd player. my grandparents got me something called a juiceman jr. for my birthday last year, hoping i would put it to good use. if good use means taking up space, unopened in the back of my closet, then they've succeeded. hopefully i can get like $50 for it at target or something. my first dvd's are going to be high fidelity, don't look back, and the new edition of boogie nights.

i'm very tempted to end this entry tonight with "rock 'n' roll!", but i won't cos i know how annoying that can be.
