i find it hard to be the least bit patriotic after reading an article like this.

regarding my first post on the 12th, i would just like to make clear that i in no way think that the people cheering represent a majority opinion anywhere in the middle east. for all i know it could just be more propaganda like i think the things i've been hearing about muslims in new york "dancing in the streets" after word of the plane crashes got out are. and i'm trying to understand the frustrations (as best as i am able to being disconnected from the middle east except on a human level) that middle eastern people are going through. we have no idea in the united states how people feel every day over there and a lot of people don't realize AT ALL that the united states are fucking bullies all over the world a lot of the time. i feel terrible about what happened in ny and dc and pa, but our government and the corporations that run it have absolutely no respect for people or cultures around the world and we, as a country, have been responsible for this kind of shit before without american people shedding any tears for them, maybe going so far as to cheer for their deaths (or our victories, indistinguishable from their deaths). we demonize people for living differently than us and look down on countries that don't look like us or act like us: "our way and our god is correct. you are wrong". we force our western culture on countries and have an "adapt or get the fuck out of the way" attitude and it's been like that for a long time now. think about what will happen in cuba when fidel castro finally dies and what america will do to kill their culture and make it a new vacation spot packed with new fast food restaurants and american businesses. sickening. everything is a business opportunity. maybe it takes something terrible like what happened on the 11th to make the people of this country realize what the fuck is going on around the world. maybe nightly news stations will actually report for more than 15 seconds about the suffering that goes on around the world before spending ten minutes talking about the details of how much money the latest hollywood blockbuster made or the ratings war (ironic, yes?) between nbc and cbs or how gently brad pitt wiped his ass that morning. who really cares? it's all about money and money means NOTHING.

i'm at work and i've decided to go home. i can't do this today.

here is an article written by michael moore about yesterday. i can't even fathom what has happened yet. this is so huge and frightening on so many fucking levels that i'm nauseous. thousands of people are just dead. their lives are over. for what? and the cheering that they showed in the streets of palestine (was it?) after hearing about the deaths. how can anyone feel happy about what happened? i can imagine if it was only a structure, a symbol of america that was destroyed and cheering for that, but cheering for the deaths of thousands of innocent people is...abhorrent. i can't put any of this into perspective. there has to be some way to help more than giving blood.

i donated blood tonight and so should you. go here to find a location or call 1-800-give-life. it doesn't hurt at all and you get all the grape juice you want afterwards.

there's a really cool silent movie theatre in hollywood and tonight natolee, britt, mehran, and i are going to see a showing of fritz lang's metropolis. not only that, but there will be someone playing the theramin live for the soundtrack. how cool is that? i just found this cool site too.

i think it's a repeat, but idlewild is going to be on conan on monday.

someone from the army called my house this morning and woke me up. i couldn't figure out who it was or what they wanted cos i was so tired, but it was just some army guy who wanted me to drop out of school and join up. i said that i don't really agree with the army and he asked why and i said because i don't want to kill people and i don't like conformity and he replied, "are you american?"

we had to bring in examples of things that we thought were pasionate -- be it a photograph, video, cd, passage from a book -- to my english class today to share and explain why we thought they were passionate and i thought i'd share with whoever's reading this what some people brought in. one person brought in eric clapton's "tears in heaven" and was really excited to go first. my teacher asked him questions about why he chose it and we found out that "it's a sad song," hearing it makes him sad, it's sad that clapton's son died, and "you could tell he was sad when he wrote it." touching, really. not only that, but sad. also, with all seriousness, someone brought in the soundtrack to the movie rocky and played us "eye of the tiger" because he really gets pumped up before basketball games when he listens to it because it's full of passion. passion or not, i had to sit through that whole song while trying not to laugh. before i went up to talk about mine, i was tempted to say, "i was going to bring in styx's 'come sail away' cos it's filled with passion" but decided against it. i brought in a scene from hearts of darkness and talked about coppola and how passionate he was about making apocalypse now and everything he went through to complete the film.

yesterday nat and i watched a woman under the influence, which was what i was going to bring in for class, but i thought something shorter would be easier and i couldn't think of the right scene to bring in without setting it up for 20 minutes explaining everything. boy did nat hate that movie. sure it was long and the scenes went on forever, but the acting was so good. cinema realism. is that what the genre's called? cassavetes has a way of putting the viewer directly in the scene unfolding right in front of them.

why do they keep saying on the news that this band system of a down is a punk band?

there is someone working at a target in southern california with the name phaithe. just think about that for a sec and you'll see just how funny it is.

there are few people in the world i hate, but dave navarro is one of them.

"there is no love left in your eyes
there is love between your thighs
roll over say goodnight"

what a jackass.

i'm quite the curmudgeon today, aren't i?
